Warangal, the second largest city of Telangana State has a population of more than 6 lakhs as per 2011 census. It is termed as the future destination after Hyderabad and is one of the two cities from the State selected under Smart Cities Mission by the Govt. of India. The cultural capital of Telangana is destined to be developed as the second major economic hub of Telangana State.
During the last four years, the city witnessed numerous developments like Infrastructure investment under Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya and 2BHK Housing; Kakatiya Mega Textile Park; widening of NH 163 into 4 lanes; IT SEZ at Madikonda; Warangal Outer Ring Road (ORR); Leather Park Project; Warangal-Hyderabad Economic Corridor; Establishment of Sainik School & International Sports Complex; Master Plan for the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority for 1805 Sq. Kms with 2014 as the horizon year is under preparation.
